Endlessly Customizable
Man of Parts
Man of Parts is the creative vision of Stephan Weishaupt, a curator of intricately designed furniture and founder of Avenue Road, one of Toronto’s premiere ultra high-end furniture re-sellers.
Our goal with the Man of Parts project was to give life to Stephan’s vision by creating a beautiful website that showcased the extreme customizability of his collection of furniture pieces.
As product lead, my role was to define the business goals, lead partner relationships with 3rd party vendors, ensure lock-step with the design studio Underline throughout the project, and work cross-functionally with our development teams to deliver the on the vision.
Designing a bespoke app for customizable furniture
Clarify the Vision // Define the Requirements
We began by identifying the most complex products in the catalogue in order to gain clarity on the number of potential variations available to the user. We analyzed the product data and realized that we would need to fundamentally change its model to meet our requirements and to function on Shopify.
Imagine, Design, Iterate
Having collected and memorized the requirements, I worked with a product designer to create a several potential visions of what the product customizer could look like. We stress-tested numerous iterations before landing on a design that centered the user experience while reflecting the refined brand vision.
Partner with Best-in-Class Talent
We partnered with a 3D object visualizing agency called Cylindo, who created 4K 3D renders of all of Man of Part’s furniture pieces. They also scanned high-resolution images of the various finishes, materials, and swatches.
We collaborated closely with their team to ensure our product data model matched their own database model, so that we could accurately call the correct images to appear through a front-end JavaScript API.
